The primary focus during the vinification stage is on the preserving and expressing the purity of the fruit picked in the vineyard. Selective manual harvest followed by slow fermentation based on the wild yeasts that occur naturally in the vineyard – a process that can last more than 10 months. Maturation in traditional Mosel Fuder (oak casks).
Layered, powerful and earthy with fine pepper notes and great complexity. A dense mouthfeel lends tremendous substance and depth. This is a characterful, firmly structured and impressively intricate Riesling with a spicy mineral edge.
Rothenpfad is south-south-east-facing with red slate. They generally pick the grapes here a little later compared to other GG vineyards, owing to a slightly cooler microclimate.
