Hand-picked and hand-selected grapes. Gentle pressing followed by wild-yeast fermentation in 1,000- and 3,000-litre oak casks. Maturation on the fine lees for 12 months, without any bâtonnage (lees stirring).
An intense Riesling bursting with power, aromatic depth, and precision, with a crystalline fruit nose of citrus, apricot, peach, and fine apple blossom. The palate is assertive and structured, showing notable grip, saline minerality and a creamy mouthfeel. Despite its forceful personality, the wine stays elegant, intricate and silky throughout. This is a vintage full of tension and finesse.
The vines thrive in the extremely steep Wehlener Sonnenuhr vineyard, growing on virtually no topsoil or humus layer, but almost exclusively on broken and weathered fragments of blue slate. Some of the vines are ungrafted, and a few are even more than 120 years old!
