Hand-picked and hand-selected grapes. Gentle pressing followed by wild-yeast fermentation in 1,000- and 3,000-litre oak casks. Maturation on the fine lees for 12 months, without any bâtonnage (lees stirring).
Small red fruits, oriental spice and a slightly reductive note on the nose. A dense, terroir-driven wine of great depth, spice and minerality.
Erdener Treppchen – bordering Erdener Prälat directly to the east – is so steep that vineyard workers built a stone staircase into the hillside centuries ago so that they could access the vines more easily. This south-to-south-west-facing slope has ferrous red slate soil, yielding rich, racy, complex Rieslings that have an intense mineral aftertaste.
