Hand-picked and hand-selected grapes. Gentle pressing followed by wild-yeast fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel. Subsequent maturation on the fine lees, exclusively in large oak casks to lend additional complexity and richness.
Mineral, spicy, powerful and slightly smoky on the nose, with a delicate bitter note. Great power, tension and purity – a remarkable Grosses Gewächs from a prestigious site.
Facing south with gradients of up to 70 degrees, Halenberg makes its vines struggle in the summer for every last drop of water. The grapes in this vineyard consequently stay smaller. This is the secret behind the wine's particularly saline, minerally quality. Halenberg comprises 8.5 hectares and has stony blue slate and quartzite soils.
