Low average yields. Selective manual harvest involving up to three passes through the vineyard. Wild-yeast fermentation in large 2,000-, 3,000- and 4,000-litre oak casks as well as in stainless steel vats. Then gentle pressing. Eleven months on the fine lees for added complexity and creaminess. No filtering or fining.
This Scharzhofberg Riesling has characteristically deep, salty minerality and pronounced, refined elegance. Tremendous ageing potential.
Arguably the Saar’s most legendary steep vineyard, with gradients of up to 55%, it lies in a sheltered side valley and benefits from optimal sunlight. The vines root deeply in weathered blue Devonian slate soils.
