Hand-picking and stringent grape selection delivered immaculate fruit (100% whole-bunch pressing) for the 2023 Pfaffenwies. Fermentation and maturation on the fine lees in large oak casks.
The 2023 Pfaffenwies is a pure, profound Riesling, with an intense, stony, slate-dominated nose underscored by ripe citrus, juicy stone fruit and a hint of iodine. The palate is full-bodied and dense, showing a bright, juicy mouthfeel, concentrated fruit and cool, mineral grip. Remarkable length on the finish, with a fine, herbal, saline note.
Pfaffenwies in Lorch is a site that covers the entire height of the vineyard slope, from the banks of the Rhine up to the edge of the forest. This steep, south-west-facing hill is home to vines planted up to 55 years ago on soils consisting of Hunsrück slate and Taunus quartzite.
