Native-yeast fermentation in an open-top vessel with around 15% of the stems. Gentle pressing followed by maturation for 24 months in Slovenian foudres.
Ripe red fruit, herbs, and oak characters come to the fore. With a little air, the wine becomes softer and more concentrated on a delicious and sappy palate. The tannins are firm and well integrated. An exceptional wine with a long finish.
Oscar Alegre planted La Calleja – one of his favourite vineyards – with his father in 1992. This terroir has a north-easterly aspect and is situated just outside the village of Fonzaleche in the north-western part of Rioja.
