Selective harvest involving several runs through the vineyard. Maceration (skin contact) for three to five days followed by gentle pressing. Fermentation partially in 600-litre and 1,200-litre oak casks and partially in temperature-controlled stainless steel. Subsequent maturation on the gross lees, with occasional bâtonnage (lees stirring), then bottling in August.
Fine if still slightly closed on the nose, with yellow stone fruit, peach and fine spice. This impressive Grosses Gewächs has great tension, drive and concentration on the palate. Juicy and precise, with a big lick of salty minerality. Notes of citrus and spice underpin an exceptionally long finish.
Sourced from 20 of the best rows of vines within the Nackenheimer Rothenberg Grosse Lage, where the terroir consists of massive red shale with a very thin layer of weathered topsoil.
