High-profile winemaker Luca D’Attoma established Tuscan estate Duemani with his wife Elena Celli at around the turn of the millennium, subsequently building a reputation for outstanding, instantly recognisable wines.

In 2023, Luca and Elena sold their estate to Le Tenute del Leone Alato in the Veneto. Since then, winemaking has been in the hands of Giovanni Casati, the company’s agronomist and head winemaker. Luca continues to support the project in an advisory role – together with a team of eight specialists, he ensures that the original philosophy and stylistic identity remain intact.

Terroir and grape varieties

In 2000, husband-and-wife team Elena Celli and Luca D’Attoma found a suitable patch of land to fulfil their winemaking dream. It was in Riparbella, at an altitude of 250 to 300 metres, that they established the Duemani estate, planting their favourite grape varieties – Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Merlot – on meagre soils.

Biodynamic principles

From the outset, Elena and Luca adhered to the principles of biodynamic farming in order to maintain the health of their soils and produce wines capturing the essence of this terroir. The estate has been officially organic as well as Demeter Certified Biodynamic® since 2004. Comprising 12 hectares, the vineyards straddle an amphitheatre-like slope and are worked by hand for the most part.

Luca as a flying winemaker

While Elena handled sales for many years, Luca D'Attoma became one of Italy’s most sought-after oenological consultants. His expertise shaped not only Duemani but also numerous top estates across the country, establishing him as one of the most influential figures in the Italian wine scene.
