Special characteristic

Hand-picked and hand-selected grapes. Cold maceration ('cold soak') for around 12 hours, followed by gentle pressing, then wild-yeast fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel. Subsequent maturation on the lees until just before bottling, to add complexity and body.

Assertive and incredibly minerally, linear and pure on the palate, with tremendous grip and tension. A ridge of limestone bedrock underneath the Kirschgarten vineyard lends this wine its mineral structure.

This sheltered, south-east-facing site is one of the best-known terroirs in the Pfalz. The fruit came from old vines that sit on a ridge of limestone bedrock underlying a topsoil of fine limestone mixed with a thin layer of loess.
