Harvest of fully ripe hand-picked grapes. Cold maceration ('cold soak') for 12 hours, gentle pressing and then cool fermentation in stainless steel – no filtering, fining or any other form of intervention.
Pale straw-yellow, with fresh pear, ripe yellow apple, ripe pineapple, quince and herbs on the nose. Packing a punch on the palate – spicy and aromatic, with fine acidity and a creamy structure. Beautiful minerality on the finish.
Markus Schneider has a veritable mosaic of terroirs at his disposal. The grapes for his Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris) come from various vineyard blocks. Some are found on heavy loam and loess soils out on the valley flats, while others are sourced from red sandstone, clay and limestone terroir at noticeably higher elevations.
