Hand-picked and hand-selected grapes. Cold maceration ('cold soak') followed by wild-yeast fermentation. Maturation for 20 months on the lees in 20% first-use French oak barrels (Taransaud and Darnajou), with regular bâtonnage (lees stirring). Malolactic fermentation also occurred during this time. After a short time in stainless steel, the wine was bottled unfiltered.
Pleasant aromas of panna cotta, blossom honey, lilac, preserved lemon and dried herbs on the nose. This Chardonnay is medium-bodied on the palate, with vibrant acidity and a long, saline finish.
This vineyard in the Russian River Valley appellation is owned by the Martinelli family, whose winery it abuts to the south. Situated in a cool spot, the vines were planted in 2007 on Huichica clay-loam – a well-drained soil that offers ideal growing conditions for premium grape varieties like Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
