Late, selective harvest. Crushing followed by traditional fermentation in large cement tanks, involving regular punch-downs of the grape skins. Subsequent gentle pressing, with maturation of each single-varietal batch in new and used (second- and third-use) French oak barrels for 18 to 24 months. After the individual components were blended together, the wine was bottled and spent a further eight months' ageing before being released for sale.
Deep ruby. Remarkable intensity on the nose, with dark fruit, vanilla, chocolate and tobacco aromas complemented by an elegant spicy note and balsamic hints. Stunning power on the palate, with elegant tannins and warming richness helping to round off the wine beautifully on the finish.
From old vines aged between 20 and 50 years. High-density planting, selective harvesting and a long period of maturation help to create a powerful wine of great character.
