Grapes from organically farmed vineyards, picked and destemmed by hand. Les Poyeux spends 12 months in used French oak barrels and a further seven months in concrete.
On the nose, this Cabernet Franc shows intense red cherry, raspberry, blueberry, hints of blackcurrant and appealing herbal nuances reminiscent of sage, thyme and laurel. Dense but soft on the palate, with lots of freshness and a mineral finish.
The estate comprises 12 hectares of vineyard around the village of Varrains in the heart of the Saumur-Champigny appellation. Les Poyeux benefits from a perfect southerly aspect with lots of sunlight. The vines sit on yellow sandstone in the upper part of the slope and on loam and limestone further down.
